Se dio a conocer la lista de nominaciones a los Critics’ Choice Awards 2021, premios de cine otorgados por la Broadcast Film Critics Association.
Los Critics’ Choice Awards no son decisivos, pero sí son buenos indicadores de qué películas y actuaciones llevan buen impulso en la carrera al Oscar. El año pasado, su premio de Mejor Película fue para “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, mientras que Mejor Dirección fue un empate entre Sam Mendes (“1917”) y Bong Joon-ho (“Parasite”).
Es importante recordar que recientemente la asociación creó los Critics’ Choice Super Awards para separar y premiar las categorías de animación, acción y horror/sci-fi. Aquí puedes encontrar a todos los ganadores que incluyen “Palm Springs”, “Birds of Prey” y “Soul”.
Esta lista de nominaciones es terrible. Abundan las películas genéricas que apelan al público tradicionalista estadounidense como “News of the World” y “Mank”, y cine independiente de calidad como “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” y “First Cow” apenas juntas cinco nominaciones entre ellas. Ni se diga el cine internacional: no existe para la crítica estadounidense.
También encontramos bastante hipocresía en la lista. Los críticos estadounidenses estuvieron burlándose del maquillaje y actuación de Glenn Close en “Hillbilly Elegy”, pero su asociación nacional le dio nominaciones en Mejor Maquillaje y Mejor Actriz de Reparto. Estos mismos miembros criticaron fuertemente a los Globos de Oro por nominar a “Minari” (película estadounidense) en Mejor Película Extranjera. Y ¿adivinen qué? Nominaron a “Minari” en Mejor Película Extranjera. Un desastre.
