“Wife of a Spy”, filme histórico de romance, drama y espionaje de Kiyoshi Kurosawa se impuso en los Asian Film Awards 2021 como Mejor Película. Su protagonista Yū Aoi se quedó con Mejor Actriz.
Zhang Yimou obtuvo el premio de Mejor Dirección por su carta de amor al cine, “One Second”, mientras que Chaitanya Tamhane repitió el logro obtenido en el Festival de Venecia 2020 y ganó Mejor Guion por “The Disciple”.
Por su trabajo en “Voice of Silence”, Yoo Ah-in se impuso en la disputada categoría de Mejor Actor, superando a Kōji Yakusho (“Under the Open Sky”) y Zhang Yi (“One Second”). “Voice of Silence” también ganó Mejor Nueva Dirección.
En las categorías técnicas hubo repartición de galardones entre “The Eight Hundred”, “Limbo”, “Wife of a Spy”, “The Wasteland” y “The Eight Hundred”.
