Para determinar a la ganadora de Mejor Película se utilizó el mismo sistema que usa la Academia: voto preferencial.
“Minari” fue la película con más votos de primer lugar tras el primer conteo o pasada. Sin embargo, fue hasta la cuarta pasada que logró obtener el 50.1% necesario para la victoria. Durante la segunda y tercera pasada, “The Father” estuvo acechando y se acercó a “Minari” porque recibió muchos votos de segundo lugar, pero la película de Isaac Lee Chung terminó imponiéndose holgadamente. Estas dos películas dominaron los primeros lugares de la encuesta.
Como dato curioso, nadie votó por “The Trial of the Chicago 7” o “Mank” en primer lugar. Al contrario, el 72% de votos de octavo lugar fueron para alguna de estas dos películas.

Según la crítica, “Minari” y “The Father” deberían encabezar la lista de películas ganadoras con tres premios cada una. Estos números respaldan el conteo de voto preferencia de la categoría reina. Fueron las dos más populares.
Asimismo, los resultados de la encuesta denotan una repartición de amor hacia las nominadas a Mejor Película, pues todas a excepción de “The Trial of the Chicago 7”, resultaron victoriosas en por lo menos una categoría ¿Se repetirá lo mismo este 25 de abril?
