Para determinar a la ganadora de Mejor Película, se utilizó el sistema de voto preferencial, mismo que utiliza la Academia.

“The Power of the Dog” ganó nuestra votación de Mejor Película y ni siquiera hubo necesidad de llegar a la segunda pasada. Desde el primer conteo, la película de Jane Campion obtuvo el 53% de los votos de primer lugar de la crítica, superando el 50% (+1 voto) necesario para triunfar.

“Drive My Car” fue la película que más se acercó a “The Power”, pues en la primera pasada obtuvo el 24% de votos de primer lugar. Curiosamente, si “The Power of the Dog” no hubiera triunfado en la primera pasada, tal vez hubiera sido rebasada porque tuvo muy pocos votos de segundo o tercer lugar y muchos en sexto y noveno lugar, caso contrario a “Drive My Car” que fue votada en segundo lugar por el 48% de la crítica.

Como dato curioso, las únicas películas que no recibieron votos de primer lugar fueron “Dune”, “CODA” y “West Side Story”. Asimismo, todas las películas a excepción de “The Power of the Dog” recibieron por lo menos un voto de último lugar en la encuesta. La película con más votos de décimo lugar fue “Don’t Look Up” con 28%, seguida de “King Richard” y “West Side Story” con 16%.
