La Critics Choice Association (CCA) dio a conocer las nominaciones de sus Critics’ Choice Awards 2023, mismas que son encabezadas por “Everything Everywhere All at Once” con 14 menciones.
Como ya hemos explicado extensivamente en esta página (y podcast), los Critics’ Choice Awards son un desastre, pues carecen de identidad y no están interesados en premiar arte, sino en predecir los premios Oscar. Básicamente son borregos que se dejan llevar por lo que pronosticadores y otros premios dictan; aquí no encontrarás decisiones audaces o fuera de lo común, ni mucho menos decisiones que verdaderamente busquen premiar a lo mejor del cine, sino una réplica de lo que el sitio Gold Derby (dedicado a predecir premios Oscar) tiene.
Este año, es la misma historia. Las nominaciones a los Critics’ Choice Awards 2023 son prácticamente una copia de los Top 10 o Top 6 de Gold Derby y aquí pueden ver la prueba. Es patético. Irónicamente, los Critics’ Choice tampoco son un reflejo de las películas y actuaciones favoritas de la crítica, de lo contrario en esta lista tendríamos a películas como “The Quiet Girl” (100% en Rotten Tomatoes) y “Happening” (99% en RT, una obra maestra) en vez de a la repudiada “Bardo” (59% en RT) o actuaciones aclamadas como la de Vicky Krieps en “Corsage” o Mia Goth en “Pearl”.
Si encontramos algo rescatable en esta lista ese es el amor a “RRR” que, tras salir premiada en las primeras entregas regionales de la crítica (las que sí tienen valor e inventiva), aquí obtuvo Mejor Película y Mejor Dirección, además de menciones de Efectos Visuales, Canción Original y Película en Idioma Extranjero. Asimismo, se agradece el amor por “Aftersun”, nominada a Mejor Guion Original, Mejor Actor y Mejor Actriz Joven; también merecía Fotografía, Edición y Diseño de Producción pero pedirle a votantes de la Critics’ Choice que valoren el arte a ese nivel ya es demasiado pedir, pobrecitxs.
