Llegó una de las entregas de premios más bonitas de la industria: los Cinema Eye Honors 2023, premios que reconocen al mejor cine documental de la temporada.
Los Cinema Eye Honors se distinguen de otros premios porque se dedican a premiar departamentos en la producción de un documental que rara vez son reconocidos, como el diseño sonoro, score original y diseño visual. Además —y esta edición 2023 no fue la excepción— su entrega siempre es amena y cálida; se siente el amor por la no ficción y la comunidad entre artistas.
“All That Breathes” fue la gran ganadora de los Cinema Eye Honors 2023, pues se llevó Mejor Documental y Mejor Fotografía. Dirigido por Shuanak Sen, esta obra maestra sigue a un grupo que se dedica a ayudar a milanos heridos debido a la contaminación en Nueva Delhi. Además del Cinema Eye, ha ganado Mejor Documental en Sundance, Cannes, Londres, IDA, entre otros prestigiosos eventos y entregas.
También hubo mucho amor para la maravillosa “Fire of Love”, cinta sobre una pareja de volcanólogos que se amaban tanto como a sus objetos de estudio. Obtuvo Mejor Edición, Mejor Score Original y Mejor Diseño Visual.
La ganadora del León de Oro en Venecia 2022, “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed”, no se fue con las manos vacías, pues Laura Poitras obtuvo Mejor Dirección. Este documental distribuido por HBO Max sigue a la fotoperiodista Nan Goldin mientras lucha contra los Sackler, familia de farmacéuticos responsable de exacerbar la crisis de los opioides.
Los y las productoras de “Navalny”, filme sobre el gran opositor de Vladimir Putin, tuvieron que ser muy discretxs y estuvieron bajo enorme presión y vigilancia. Por ello, su premio de Mejor Producción fue merecidísimo. Además, el documental ganó el Premio de la Audiencia.
Además, “The Territory”, sobre la deforestación del Amazonas, obtuvo Mejor Debut; “Aftersun” ganó el premio Heterodox por su mezcla de ficción y no ficción; “Moonage Daydream”, documental caleidoscópico sobre David Bowie, ganó Mejor Diseño Sonoro y Diseño Visual (empate con “Fire of Love”); y “Nuisance Bear” obtuvo Mejor Corto, una señal de su poder en la carrera al Oscar (en donde es finalista).
