Se dieron a conocer a los ganadores del Critics Choice Documentary Awards 2020 y Netflix se llevó 6 premios a casa para sus documentales “Descanse en paz, Dick Johnson”, “Mi Maestro el Pulpo”, “Atleta A” y “David Attenborough: Una vida en nuestro planeta”.
Tras haber sido nombrada en el Short List de favoritas rumbo al Oscar por DOC NYC 2020, “Descanse en paz, Dick Johnson” de Kirsten Johnson consolidó su caso en la carrera obteniendo el Critics Choice a Mejor Película y Mejor Dirección. Ojo, este premio no garantiza nada pues tres de los cuatro máximos ganadores de esta entrega ni siquiera fueron nominados al Oscar. Sin embargo, en una temporada de premios tan caótica y en donde votantes de la Academia deberán ver filmes en casa, la importancia del CCDA podría cambiar.
Apple Plus TV se llevó un par de premios cortesía de “Boys State” en Mejor Documental Político y “Beastie Boys Story” en Mejor Documental Musical. Mejor Corto fue para el nominado al Oscar “St. Louis Superman” así que no obtuvimos ningún indicador a la carrera 2021.
