Se anunciaron a los y las ganadores de los inaugurales Critics Choice Super Awards, premios que buscan honrar al cine de superhéroes, acción, horror, ciencia ficción, fantasía y animación.

“Palm Springs” y “Soul” se llevaron todos los premios de las categorías de sci-fi/fantasía y animación respectivamente. Además, “Da 5 Bloods” de Spike Lee obtuvo el premio de Mejor Filme de Acción y Mejor Actor para Delroy Lindo. En la categoría de horror, “The Invisible Man” de Leigh Whannell obtuvo Mejor Película, mientras que Elisabeth Moss se quedó con Mejor Actriz. Por último, en la categoría de filmes de superhéroes, Margot Robbie e Ewan McGregor ganaron los premios de actuación, pero Mejor Película fue para “The Old Guard” de Gina Prince-Bythewood.

¿Por qué segregar a las películas de esta manera? ¿No podemos nominar a los Critics Choice normales una película de ciencia ficción o acción? Aparentemente no. De hecho, la asociación de críticos sacó a la categoría de animación – cuya victoria fue para “Soul” – de los premios principales (Critics Choice Awards 2021), para incluirla en estos nuevos galardones. Y aunque no estoy de acuerdo con esta segregación, debo admitir que fue lindo ver reconocimiento para películas y actuaciones, como la de Betty Gilpin en “The Hunt”, que de otra manera no hubieran recibido amor en temporada de premios.
