La Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión o BAFTA anunció las nominaciones a sus BAFTA Awards 2022.
Es importante destacar que, por segundo año consecutivo, BAFTA ha implementado un sistema de jueces para determinar las nominaciones en categorías de dirección y actuación; en el caso de estas últimas, la Academia Británica entera vota por dos nominadas (populares) y los cuatro lugares restantes son elegidos por un jurado especializado. Esta genial idea nos ayuda a obtener premios más interesados en destacar la calidad y el arte que en satisfacer a los gustos populistas de la asociación.
“Dune” lidera el campo de nominaciones a los BAFTA 2022 con 11 menciones, incluyendo Mejor Película y Guion Adaptado. A continuación viene “The Power of the Dog” que aparece un total de ocho veces, incluyendo las categorías fuertes como Mejor Película, Mejor Dirección, Mejor Guion Adaptado, Mejor Actor y doble mención en Mejor Actor de Reparto para Kodi Smit-McPhee y Jesse Plemons.
“Belfast” obtuvo 6 nominaciones al BAFTA 2022 y se metió a Mejor Película, Mejor Película Británica, Mejor Actriz de Reparto y Mejor Actor de Reparto. Después vienen “No Time to Die”, “West Side Story” y “Licorice Pizza” con 5. Esta última disputa las categorías clave de Mejor Película, Mejor Dirección, Mejor Actriz, Mejor Guion Original y Mejor Edición.
Es en las categorías elegidas por el jurado donde encontramos, como era de esperarse, la mejor calidad de estas nominaciones al BAFTA 2022. Los y las excelentes Julia Ducournau (“Titane”), Audrey Diwan (“Happening”), Aleem Khan (“After Love”) y Ryusuke Hamaguchi (“Drive My Car”) obtuvieron la nominación a Mejor Dirección. Asimismo, en Mejor Actriz encontramos a la elección de la Academia Lady Gaga (“House of Gucci”) compitiendo contra las verdaderas actuaciones de Alana Haim (“Licorice Pizza”), Emilia Jones (“CODA”), Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person in the World”), Joanna Scanlan (“After Love”) y Tessa Thompson (“Passing”). Kristen Stewart y Olivia Colman quedaron fuera.
En Mejor Actor, los favoritos Will Smith (“King Richard”) y Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog”) compiten contra los excepcionales Stephen Graham (“Boiling Point”), Mahershala Ali (“Swan Song”), Adeel Akhat (“Ali & Ava”) y Leonardo DiCaprio (“Don’t Look Up”). Andrew Garfield quedó fuera.
En las categorías de actuación de reparto encontramos las agradables inclusiones de Jessie Buckley (“The Lost Daughter”), Ann Down (“Mass”) y Woody Norman (“C’mon C’mon”).
Otra grata sorpresa es la nominación de “Summer of Soul” en Mejor Edición; es muy raro que se tomen en cuenta a documentales en categorías técnicas, pero éste es un gran paso adelante. En Mejor Documental, “Summer of Soul” compite contra “Cow”, “The Rescue”, “Flee” y “Becoming Cousteau”.
